South Korean shipbuilding and heavy industries conglomerate HD Hyundai is presenting the blueprint of future construction sites utilizing unstaffed autonomous technologies at CES 2024 in Las Vegas this week.
According to HD Hyundai, this year’s exhibition has been set up under the core theme of “Xite Transformation,” a land innovation vision to solve the problems humanity is facing, such as security, supply chains and climate change.
HD Hyundai divided its exhibition area into three themes -- Future Xite, Twin Xite and Zero Xite -- with life-size construction machines on display. The size of the company’s exhibition nearly doubled from last year’s event to cover about 1,000 square meters.
HD Hyundai said visitors are given the chance to get in a simulator that can remotely control a wheel loader in Atlanta, some 3,000 kilometers from the convention site. The company also prepared a virtual reality experience program to offer a glimpse of construction sites in the future.
The exhibition includes a light-emitting diode screen stretching 18 meters in width and 4.5 meters in height showing HD Hyundai’s autonomous construction site that draws up an optimized project plan by analyzing the information of the working site based on artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, offering functions of machine operation and safety management.
Next to the LED screen is HD Hyundai’s 4.5-meter-tall excavator. The excavator does not have an operator’s seat due to its uncrewed features. Equipped with wide-angle radar sensors and a smart around-view monitoring system, the machine can recognize its surrounding obstacles and safely work on its own. HD Hyundai pointed out that the uncrewed excavator is futuristic equipment that can separate human workers from sites with risks to secure safety.
HD Hyundai plans to seek opportunities in unstaffed autonomous technology and become a top-tier firm in the global market.
“We prepared various smart construction solutions that will be applied to future construction sites in one spot at this CES 2024,” said an HD Hyundai official.
“HD Hyundai will lead the technology innovation to build infrastructures for humanity’s sustainability."
