JungKwanJang's new red ginseng product using edible bird's nests (JungKwanJang) |
JungKwanJang, South Korea’s leading red ginseng brand under Korean Ginseng Corp., said Wednesday that it has launched a new red ginseng product using edible bird’s nests to target the Chinese market.
Swallow’s nests, in particular, have long been considered a delicacy in Chinese cuisine, and more recently they are widely used in skincare products as they contain sialic acid, a type of amino acid, as well as various minerals and collagen.
The market for edible bird’s nests continues to grow annually, and as of 2022, its size was estimated at some 43 billion Chinese yuan ($6 billion).
The new JungKwanJang product combines bird’s nest extract powder, pomegranate concentrate and the company’s own red ginseng extract.
As pomegranates contain plant-based estrogen as well as other antioxidants including tannins, anthocyanins and ellagic acid, the company said the new product also offers enhanced dermal benefits.
“Our new product allows Chinese consumers to enjoy bird's nests, their preferred health delicacy,” a KGC official said. “Going forward we will continue to select beneficial health ingredients for our products, and bring them to the market."
Released under Good Base, JungKwanJang’s health food brand, the product is available for purchase at JungKwanJang duty-free shops at airports and downtown areas. The company also plans to export the product to China soon.
