Mirae Asset chairman donates W23.2b dividends in 9 years

Mirae Asset Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has donated his entire dividend yields from Mirae Asset Global Investments for the ninth consecutive year, according to the company on April 1

Its accumulated volume came to 23.2 billion won ($20.46 million). This year alone, he donated 1.6 billion won dividends for the financial year 2018.

As of end-2018, Park owns 60.19 percent stake with voting rights in Mirae Asset Global Investments. He founded the investment firm in 1997.

The donation has gone to Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation for scholarships and social welfare projects.

Park has exerted an influence over the group, owning stakes in three first-tier subsidiaries of the group -- Mirae Asset Global Investments, Mirae Asset Capital and Mirae Asset Consulting. His indirect subsidiaries include an investment banking and brokerage unit Mirae Asset Daewoo and an insurer Mirae Asset Life Insurance.
