Two local small and medium-sized duty-free operators have been chosen to operate the country’s first arrival duty-free shops at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul.

Incheon International Airport Corp., the airport’s operator, said on March 20 that the two firms -- Entas Duty Free and SM Duty Free -- were chosen through the bidding for the shops that are set to open in May.

“The new operators are expected to start their business at the end of May after going through two months of preparation, just like the government announced earlier,” the operator said in a press release.

The government earlier announced that it will open duty-free shops at arrival airport terminals to alleviate the inconvenience of having to travel with duty-free goods.

The two companies will each operate one arrival duty-free shop at Incheon airport’s passenger Terminal 1 and one of the companies will open another one at Terminal 2.
