[ET NEWS] China’s largest display maker BOE is seeking to supply OLED panels to Samsung Electronics, posing a direct threat to Korean big two Samsung Display and LG Display, according to industry sources on Oct. 5.
“BOE is seeking to supply the panels for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch. It is currently working on the samples,” an industry source told ET News on condition of anonymity.

BOE supplied some LCD panels to Samsung before but it has not yet supplied OLED panels to the world’s largest smartphone maker. The firm plans to supply OLED panels for Huawei’s flagship Mate Pro that debuts later this year.
BEO started producing its first sixth-generation OLED panels in May but the yield rate reportedly remains at about 30 percent due to tricky procedures.
Samsung produces about 300,000 to 1 million units of the Watch wearables per month. It would be a lucrative and stable supply for BEO, which also could pave the way for it to supply to other Samsung products, especially smartphones.
