[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Motor said on Sept. 3 its August sales rose 9.2 percent from a year earlier due to recovering demand in China.
Hyundai sold 384,443 vehicles in August, up from 352,078 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.
The monthly sales increased on a base effect as its sales suffered sharp declines throughout last year due to a diplomatic row between Seoul and Beijing over a US anti-missile system, a company spokesman said.
Domestic sales advanced 7.4 percent to 58,682 units last month from 54,560 a year ago. Overseas sales were up 9.5 percent to 325,861 from 297,518 during the same period, it said.
In the second half, Hyundai said it expects the all-new Santa Fe sport utility vehicle and the facelifted Tucson SUV that will be sold in China to boost overall sales.
In the January-August period, sales gained 3.9 percent to 2.97 million autos from 2.86 million units a year earlier, the company said.
