[THE INVESTOR] Bixby, Samsung Electronics' new artificial intelligence assistant system first featured in the latest Galaxy S8, seems to have trouble keeping up with current events as it is unaware of the newly elected Korean president.
Chosun Biz on May 17 conducted a test by asking several AI assistants who the current president was and Bixby was caught off guard replying: “The question is challenging the central processing unit.”
Apple’s Siri also struggled to give a definitive answer when asked the same question as it provided a search result of several Korean presidents instead of responding with the name of the incumbent president.
Google Assistant, SK Telecom’s NUGU and KT’s GiGA Genie were not stumped by the question as they all promptly responded with the right answer “Moon Jae-in.”
“Bixby is a young AI assistant that hasn’t accumulated a copious amount of data yet. Furthermore, it works on a completely differently platform compared to others such as the search engine-based Google AI,” a Samsung official was quoted as saying in the report.
According to Chosun biz, NUGU and GiGA Genie were able to come up with the correct answer without much trouble due to the fact that they have partnered with Wikipedia that conducts the search through its website when asked a question. Samsung, on the other hand, doesn’t have a search engine partnership except for Pinterest for images.
