Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S7, the predecessor of the recently released Galaxy S8 smartphones, reached 55 million units as of the first quarter, data showed on May 1.
According to the data compiled by Strategic Analytics, Samsung sold 7.2 million units of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge over the January-March period. The robust sales came as the Galaxy S7 stood between the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 phablet and the Galaxy S8 just released in April, it added.
The researcher added Samsung sold 92.8 million units of handsets in the first quarter, with smartphones accounting for 86 percent, or 80 million units.
The Korean tech giant took up 23 percent of the global smartphone market, it added.
