[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics has decided to enlarge the display screen of its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone possibly to attract potential Note customers who prefer a bigger-screen phone, a local news outlet reported on Nov. 9.
According to The Bell, the S8 will be launched in two models with 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch screens, respectively.
Its predecessor S7 came with a 5.1-inch screen last year, while its Edge variant featured a 5.7-inch screen.
Despite no change in the phone size, a bezel-less design will remove the home button on the bottom, allowing more space for an immersive viewing.
As widely expected, Samsung will ditch the planar version of the flagship S series and launch the phone with a curved screen only.
The Bell added the company is also working on a new naming of the bigger-screen version, saying “plus” is likely.
“In order to attract potential Note consumers who prefer a large screen, Samsung has decided to adopt bigger screens for both new models of the S8,” an analyst was quoted as saying.
