BIOGRAPHY
Huh was born in 1948 in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, as the eldest son of Huh Jun-ku, the honorary chairman of LG Construction which is now GS E&C. His grandfather is Huh Man-jung who cofounded the LG Group. He majored in business at Korea University and earned an MBA at Saint Louis University.
He joined the company in 1977 and since the two founding families separated into LG (family of Koo In-hwoi) and GS in 2004, he has been serving as the chairman of the group.
GS’ main businesses are energy, distribution and construction, and under Huh, further grew into the seventh-largest conglomerate as of 2016. He is widely credited for its steady growth, by seeking new businesses with an eye for renewable energy while strengthening existing ones, and through aggressive M&As.
He married Lee Ju-yeong, daughter of former Trade and Industry Minister Lee Cheol-seung. They have one son and a daughter. Son Yoon-hong is an executive director at GS E&C.
