Kim Ik-rae was born in Gangneung, Gangwon Province in 1950.
The chairman and founder of Daou Group graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a degree in English. He started to work at IBM Korea in 1976, and co-founded Qnix, which is considered the nation’s first tech venture firm, in 1981.
Kim and four of his workers founded software venture firm Daou Tech in 1986. The software firm was listed on the secondary KOSDAQ in 1997.
The word Daou has two meanings: Giving a lot of help to people around the world, and everything in this world is ours.
Since 2000, he increased his presence in the financial sector in earnest by launching online securities firms including Kiwoom.com, now Kiwoom Securities.
